OATMAN KITCHEN AND DINING RENOVATION

This North Portland cottage renovation focuses on creating a seamless, open-concept environment by removing the structural boundary between the kitchen and dining areas. By eliminating the dividing wall, the design introduces a more fluid layout that accommodates a new bar-height eating counter, fostering a communal atmosphere for cooking and socializing.
The kitchen has been fully modernized with custom casework, high-efficiency appliances, and durable new countertops. A full-height tile backsplash provides a sophisticated vertical texture, complemented by a layered interior lighting scheme that enhances both task work and ambiance. To unify the first floor, the original hardwood floors were carefully refinished and the entire space updated with a fresh palette of paint, balancing the home’s original cottage character with a refined, contemporary interior.

This garage conversion in Southeast Portland reimagines underutilized space as a versatile living suite. By transforming the existing structure into a self-contained unit—featuring a kitchenette, a full bathroom, and dedicated sleeping and living areas—the project maximizes the potential of the urban lot.
Beyond the interior renovation, the design reclaims the former driveway to create a central outdoor courtyard. This shared amenity serves as a bridge between the primary residence and the new suite, providing a thoughtful space for dining, gathering, and community within a residential context.
